Guide

How to play

A pass-the-phone social deduction game for 3–12 players. One phone, no setup.

Agents

Find and vote out the Impostors.

Impostors

Blend in and avoid getting caught.

A round, step by step

  1. 1

    Get your role

Pass the phone around. Each player taps to see their role in private. Agents see the secret answer; Impostors only get clues.

  2. 2

    Give clues

Going clockwise, everyone says one short word or phrase that proves they know the answer.

  3. 3

    Discuss

After each round of clues, talk it through. Who seems suspicious? Who seems safe?

  4. 4

    Vote

After the second round and a final discussion, everyone points at who they think the Impostor is.

  5. 5

    Reveal

Unmask the Impostors and reveal the answer. A caught Impostor can still steal the win by guessing the answer.

Roles

  • Agent · Good team

You see the secret answer. Prove you know it without making it easy for the Impostors.

  • Impostor · Impostor team

You don't see the answer. Listen, bluff and blend in. If you're caught, guess the answer to steal the win.

  • Insider · Good team

You know who the Impostors are. Help vote them out, but if the Impostors identify you, they win instead.

  • Saboteur · Solo

You know the answer, but you only win if you get yourself voted out.

  • Hitman · Solo

You get a target on the Good team. You win if your target is voted out and you survive.

  • Lawyer · Impostor team

You defend one Impostor. You win if both you and your defendant survive the vote.

Insider, Saboteur, Hitman and Lawyer only appear when Extra roles is switched on.

Tips

  • As an Agent, be specific enough to prove you know the answer, but vague enough that Impostors can’t copy you.
  • As an Impostor, echo the vague parts of other clues and act confident.
  • Watch for clues that are too vague, too specific, or suspiciously close to someone else’s.
  • Use the discussion timers to keep the pressure on.
